How to Make a Wall Mount for Your Proton Pack

My wife might call it an overpriced toy however I call it art.

And art shouldn’t be sitting on the floor (I mean unless that’s what the artist intended of course).

My modified HasLab Proton Pack has given me some fantastic Ghostbusting cosplay memories, but when I’m not wearing it, it mostly sits on the display base it originally came with. So I finally decided to give it a proper home on the wall.

The good news? This project was ridiculously easy.

Getting Started

You really don’t need much for this build:

  • A scrap piece of 2×4
  • A pair of Gun Rack Hooks
  • Screws and appropriate wall anchors
  • Paint, vinyl, Hazard Tape, or whatever you want to use to dress it up
  • Basic woodworking tools
a perfectly squared 2x4 cut to 8 inches

I started with a scrap 2×4 and cut it down to 8 inches long. Because dimensional lumber has those rounded edges, I trimmed mine square, bringing the finished width to roughly 3.25 inches. Then I sanded everything with 60-grit followed by 120-grit to clean it up.

You could paint the mounting block, stain it, add a logo—or leave it completely plain.

wrapping the 2x4 with hazard tape

I painted the exposed ends satin black and wrapped the rest of the block in black-and-yellow hazard tape. It’s a ridiculously simple detail, but it makes the mount feel like it actually belongs with the pack rather than looking like a random chunk of lumber screwed to the wall.

From there, I installed the hooks, securely mounted the whole thing to the wall, and… Would you look at that. The Proton Pack is officially off the floor and on display.

And now that it’s hanging there looking all pretty, I have another idea: wire the Proton Pack for wall power so the lights can stay running while it’s on display… because apparently getting it off the floor just isn’t enough!
