The Ultimate FlexiSpot E6 Max Review: This Desk Changed My Mind

A couple of weeks ago, FlexiSpot reached out after seeing some of my previous DIY desk projects — including my homemade standing desk setup and my treadmill desk conversion — and asked if I wanted to check out their FlexiSpot E6 Max Dual Motor Standing Desk.

They provided the desk to me for free for the purpose of this review, but all opinions here are my own. Getting something sent to me doesn’t guarantee a positive review — because honestly, what good is a review if it isn’t actually honest?

So today I’m building the FlexiSpot E6 Max, putting it through some real-world tests, and figuring out if this thing deserves a permanent spot in my office.

Why Try a Standing Desk?

I’ve been experimenting with standing desks for a while.

My first setup was a desktop riser that sat on top of my existing desk. It worked, but it wasn’t exactly elegant. It was heavy, awkward to move, and honestly didn’t look great sitting on top of a nice desk.

Then I built my own DIY standing solution, which worked great for what I needed — especially at my day job where bringing in a full electric desk wasn’t really an option.

I also converted a treadmill into a walking desk, which I absolutely love. Being able to walk a few miles, clear out emails, and start the day already moving has been a huge win.

But I had never fully committed to replacing my traditional desk with an electric standing desk.

That’s where the FlexiSpot E6 Max comes in.

Unboxing the FlexiSpot E6 Max

The FlexiSpot E6 Max comes in two main parts:

  • The desktop surface
  • The adjustable standing desk frame and motors

The first thing I noticed? This thing is heavy.

And honestly, that’s not a bad thing. A standing desk needs to feel solid, especially when you’re trusting motors to raise and lower your entire workstation every single day.

The frame feels substantial, the metal components feel sturdy, and overall, it gives the impression that it’s built to last.

Building the Standing Desk Frame

Assembly was pretty straightforward. The frame pieces bolt together, the dual motors connect into the control system, and FlexiSpot includes cable management pieces to keep everything cleaned up underneath.

Before attaching the frame, make sure you know which side is the front of the desk.

The desktop has pilot holes for the control panel, so lining everything up before installing the frame will save you a headache later.

Testing the Electric Height Adjustment

Once assembled, it was time for the fun part.

Press the button.

Watch it move.

The E6 Max uses a dual motor system, and I was honestly surprised by how smooth the movement was. It doesn’t jerk when starting or stopping — it eases into position, which gives it a much more premium feel.

The desk adjusts from sitting height all the way up to standing height, and you can save your preferred positions so you’re not constantly trying to find the perfect setting.

The Stability Test (AKA: Can It Lift Me?)

FlexiSpot rates the E6 Max for up to 330 pounds.

Naturally, there was only one reasonable thing to do.

Sit on it.

For science.

I weigh around 210 pounds, so I climbed onto the desk and tested whether the motors could actually raise and lower me.

The result?

It worked.

The desk lifted me all the way up without struggling, and while I wouldn’t recommend turning your desk into an amusement park ride, it was a pretty impressive demonstration of how strong the motors actually are.

What I Like About the FlexiSpot E6 Max

It’s Extremely Sturdy

This was probably my biggest surprise.

Compared to the desktop riser solutions I’ve used in the past, the E6 Max feels significantly more stable.

Even fully raised, it doesn’t feel like my monitors, computer equipment, and everything else are balancing on something fragile.

The Dual Motors Are Smooth

The adjustment is quiet, controlled, and easy.

Going from sitting to standing is literally pushing a button.

And because it’s that simple, I’m actually more likely to use it.

The Warranty

FlexiSpot backs the E6 Max with:

  • 10-year warranty on the frame and motors
  • 2-year warranty on electronics and controls

For something that has moving parts and electronics that you’ll use every day, I appreciate a company standing behind the product.

What I Would Change About the FlexiSpot E6 Max

No product is perfect, and there were two things I noticed.

The Desktop Material

The desktop looks good, but coming from a real wood desk, I can definitely tell the difference.

At this price point, I understand why it’s not solid hardwood. But as someone who loves woodworking, I would love to eventually upgrade this with a custom hardwood top.

Future MADE by AP project?

Maybe.

Lack of Storage

As a maker, I need drawers. Not because I’m organized. Because I need places to hide the chaos. Hard drives, cables, tools, calipers, random project pieces — all that stuff needs a home.

FlexiSpot does sell storage accessories and other desk models with storage built in, but out of the box the E6 Max is a very clean minimalist setup.

Which is great. Unless you’re me.

Final Thoughts: Is the FlexiSpot E6 Max Worth It?

I started this project assuming I’d build the desk, test it out, and put it in my wife’s office.

Then something unexpected happened.

I liked it.

Being able to switch between sitting and standing instantly is great for my back, the motors feel strong, and the desk feels like something that’s going to hold up long term.

Do I miss my old wooden desk?

A little.

But the convenience of a proper electric standing desk won me over.

So yes — the FlexiSpot E6 Max officially earned a spot in my office.

Again… sorry, honey.
